A little bit of history- The spring celebrations of ancient Greeks and Romans, in honor of their respective Mothers of the Gods, were the earliest known Mother's Day celebrations. So rest assured that this was not just a greeting card company created holiday. The Christians celebrated a holiday in honor of the Madonna, on the 4th Sunday of Lent.
In the 1600's, England extended that celebration to include all mothers, celebrating an early version of Mother's Day called Mothering Sunday.

- These were all fine and good, but imagine the ultimate gift you could give your Mom. Well, back in 1907, a woman named Ana Jarvis began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. She convinced the church where her mother prayed in West Virginia to celebrate a special day for mothers on the 2nd anniversary of her mother's death. The 2nd Sunday in May. By the following year the celebration began to spread.

- President Wilson proclaimed the 2nd Sunday of May a national holiday called Mother's Day. (What would have been wrong with a Monday or a Friday?) Anyway, since 1914 it has been a recognized holiday in the USA as well as many other countries around the world.
Take advantage of this day to let your Mom know just how much you love her. Happy Mother's Day Moms!
